Enrichment Offerings - 5th Grade
JCDS is proud to partner with the Knight School to allow students to explore the classic game of chess. Lessons will include strategy, gameplay, and other skills. Students will exercise their critical thinking skills through a variety of chess-based games and activities.

JCDS Volleyball is a developmental program for athletes in 3rd-5th grades. Players will develop basic volleyball skills including serving, setting, hitting, and passing. Students will participate in regular practices, establishing good sportsmanship through regular drills and conditioning. Teams will compete against other local independent schools throughout the season and in a culminating tournament.

JCDS Flag Football is a developmental program for athletes in 3rd- 5th grades. Players will develop basic flag football skills including offensive and defensive formations and plays, route running and receiving, and flag pulling. Students will participate in regular practices and games, establishing good sportsmanship and building aerobic fitness. Teams will compete against other local independent schools throughout the season.

Come join the JCDS Sharks on the Run group for a fun, active, and engaging running club with your friends. Students will work on proper preparation, stretching, stride, and running technique, as well as pacing and gross motor skills.

Get ready to rock! Jammers is a new ensemble that will explore pop music using classroom instruments including keyboard, drums, ukulele, and voice. Members will learn to read simple lead sheets and play basic chord progressions. Parts are adapted so every musician can succeed as part of the group.

JCDS offers private lessons for students interested in developing musical skills. Lessons are offered for students exploring flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, low brass, and percussion instruments. Individualized instruction allows a focused environment to develop technical skills and confidence. We are happy to partner with Chrystal and Kent Staples for these on-campus lessons.

Shine on stage! JCDS is proud to offer Theatre Arts classes that nurture students’ confidence and creativity by teaching the fundamentals of acting. JCDS Band students develop musical techniques and learn to collaborate at both the beginning and advanced levels. The JCDS Band is composed of musicians learning brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. The students explore various composers and styles and develop confidence as they perform on and off campus throughout the school year.

Performances include local events like Jacksonville Icemen games and Riverside Arts Market, plus a national competition each year!

Jacksonville Country Day School provides after school Extended Care for all students, including those in the Early Learning program. As an extension of the regular school day, our program seeks to provide care that will compliment and support the mission of JCDS.
The Extended Care program includes daily homework time, physical and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and a nutritious snack.
