Volunteering

All In

To sustain a school like Jacksonville Country Day School requires more than just a great faculty, staff, and curriculum. It also takes involvement from the broader JCDS community - from all of those who deeply care about our students and understand the importance of carrying out our mission to celebrate the love of learning and the joy of the journey.

To achieve our mission and provide students with the full JCDS experience, we rely on the active participation and support of our entire community - parents, grandparents and more!

There are a number of meaningful ways to support our school and become involved!

The Gift of Your Time is Most Precious

Jacksonville Country Day School welcomes our volunteers whose contributions make many events possible throughout the year.

The Parents Association needs volunteers for events such as school picture day, vision screening, field day, family nights, uniform resales, and our annual book fair.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities await in fine arts enrichment, athletics enrichment, lost and found, library, and teacher/staff appreciation, plus more!.

Classroom Volunteering

Volunteers become involved in their child’s classroom in a variety of ways from reinforcing academic skills to special projects. Volunteers will be assigned to classrooms based on teachers' needs. All volunteers must review and sign the volunteer training expectation form before being added to the classroom volunteer list. The classroom volunteer schedule varies by grade level and teacher. These volunteer opportunities typically begin after September 1 of each new school year.

Volunteers only help in their children’s classes on an "as needed" basis. Teachers will work directly with families to do the scheduling of classroom volunteers.

Prior to volunteering in the classroom, all volunteers must read and sign the Volunteer Expectations Agreement available to families at the beginning of each year along with other mandatory school forms. Other family members wishing to volunteer should contact Director of Education, Tonya Elstein to review and sign the Volunteer Expectations Agreement.

We look forward to having you involved on campus!

Homeroom Parents

Jacksonville Country Day School promotes family involvement and parental participation in all aspects of student life. Homeroom Parents have an important impact on students' educational experience by providing in-room assistance to our teachers.

Homeroom parents act as a liaison between teachers and the parents in each classroom. Responsibilities vary by teacher and grade but may include scheduling other volunteers, planning holiday functions and special events, or coordinating chaperones for field trips. Homeroom parents will request volunteers for specific activities throughout the school year so there will be many opportunities to get involved. It is the responsibility of homeroom parents to organize activities and delegate the work to those parents who have offered to help.

Homeroom parent assignments will be determined in early September. Grade level homeroom parents will be contacted directly by the Parents' Association Homeroom Chair. To be considered for a homeroom parent position please complete the appropriate space on the volunteer sign-up form located in the secure parent portal, mySharkHub.

  • Art Room

Volunteering in our Art Rooma is an opportunity to assist with the sorting, mounting, and hanging of art for displays. This would include the exhibits at the JAA, the Young Artist Forum (the school-wide show), the Art Shark shows (the after-school program), and around the JCDS campus. You will also have the chance to help our faculty prepare for upcoming projects in grade-level classes. No artistic skills are required.
  • Athletics

Our after-school athletics program is designed to introduce students to a wide variety of sports while they also gain skills for life in sportsmanship, leadership, and character development. As our athletics program grows, so does our need for volunteers.
  • Book Fair (Books and Brushes!)

The annual Book Fair and Young Artists Forum presents an opportunity for our students (and parents) to purchase new books to add to their libraries - or to add to those of friends and family. It is also a chance see your child's artwork on display!

Volunteers are needed to set up and decorate for this two-day event, assist shoppers, and check out patrons.
  • Community Connections

Volunteer with other JCDS families to give back to the Jacksonville community. Our mission of teaching social responsibility doesn't end on campus. Rather, through our Community Connections program, we work to connect our JCDS families with organizations in our area where they can offer volunteer support -- parents and children working side-by-side!
  • Fall and Spring Community Events

Come and volunteer for these on-campus, community events! These are a chance at the beginning of the school year and end of the school year to connect all of our JCDS families for some fun and friendship! Volunteers are needed to set up and decorate the campus and supervise activities.
  • Homeroom Parents

Assist in your child’s homeroom or advisory, organize volunteers, and help with teacher needs in the classroom throughout the year. You will also have the opportunity to help put together and host your grade-level events off campus. Homeroom parents also play an important role in our planning of the JCDS Gala and Auction as well as other PA events!
  • Library

You will have the opportunity to help shelve library books (we have active readers and there are a lot of books to shelve!) and other activities and projects the library staff may need assistance with throughout the school year.
  • Parent Ambassador
