Third Graders and Civil Rights
In January, 2024 the third graders learned about Civil Rights in the U.S. They listened to Dr. Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream speech. Using their high level thinking skills, they interpreted what the speech meant to themselves personally. They wrote their own version of the speech, spelling out their own dreams for humanity and their own lives.
On January 17, they went on a field trip to St. Augustine, where they spent the day with Ms. Bernadette Reeves, an expert on the Civil Rights Movement. Ms. Reeves literally led the students in the footprints of civil rights activists Andrew Young and Martin Luther King, Jr.
