Spring Concert Gets Patriotic!

by Michael Porter
The nation's 250th was honored by the JCDS Band.
The JCDS Band and Drum Ensemble presented their Spring Concert, Echoes of America, on May 13. Under the direction of Band Specialist Chrystal Staples, the performance offered a vibrant celebration of Americana.

“It has been ten years since I last chose a patriotic theme for our spring concert,” said Ms. Staples. “With this year marking the 250th anniversary of our great country, it seemed the perfect time to revisit this inspiring collection of American music. I hope it helped kick off a summer of patriotic fun for our JCDS families!”

The program featured several beloved classics, including Swanee River, performed by the flute ensemble; The Entertainer, played by the clarinet ensemble; Shenandoah, by the saxophone and French horn ensemble; This Land, by the low brass ensemble; and the rousing anthem, God Bless America, performed by the trumpet ensemble.

All members of the band demonstrated impressive growth in their musicianship since the Winter Concert in December. The ensemble was proudly joined by three JCDS alumni — Wisty G., Logan G., and Sohni S. — who continue to serve as outstanding role models for the current musical Sharks.

"As always, these incredibly talented young musicians put on a great show!" noted Ms. Staples. "They really put their heart and sole into making beautiful music. I am beyond pleased with their efforts and results every year!"
