Characters on the March!

by Michael Porter
Early learning students celebrate reading.
March is National Reading Month, a nationwide celebration that gets kids and their families excited about reading. March 2nd was also the birthday of Dr. Seuss! This morning, each of our Early Learning students celebrated National Reading Month by dressing up as their favorite storybook characters and participating in a parade around the campus.

"Each child picks a favorite book with their family, and they wear a costume to represent that book," said Pre-K 4 teacher Karen Connelly. "The children brought their books to school with them to share with their classmates."

There were many characters from Dr. Seuss books, including cats in hats, and a Lorax or two. There were a couple of Harry Potters, Pete the Cats, and many princesses!

The older students cheered them on as they processed around to all corners of the school.

The objective is to get children excited about reading, and what better way to immerse yourself in a book than to embody one of the characters?

"We have been doing this parade for many years, and some of our kiddos have been excited since the beginning of the year for this day!" Ms. Connelly said.
