A Show About Icky Things!
The second grade show is about creepy crawlies.
This October, the second grade students presented their grade-level production today called Squirm. This is a new show in the JCDS repertoire and is a bit of a departure from the norm.
"It's about things that are disgusting to some people," said 2nd-grader Inaya V., who played a worm in the show.
"Spiders! Snakes! Bats! Worms! Ewww!" said Music Specialist Jessica Barker. "The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Little Miss Muffett, and a cast of creepy critters take the stage to shine a positive light on the slimy, slithery things that make us squirm."
This show was a delight for the performers, who got to dress up as various scary creatures, sing, and dance to amuse the enthusiastic audience.
Presenting this show was fun, and the few challenges along the way provided valuable opportunities for growth and learning.
Campbell R., who played the King Spider, said, "The hardest part was my solo."
Campbell performed it exceptionally well. As this is his first year at JCDS, he said he is looking forward to more shows in the future.
Henry D., who played a scary wolf spider, noted that getting his costume on and off was quite a chore.
"We are so proud of all our students' hard work," said Ms. Barker.
The dance numbers were skillfully choreographed by Dance Manager Hannah Tucker, who was able to coax some ambitious steps from the second graders.
Fine Arts Coordinator Lindsay Curry devised clever lighting and sound design that depicted the mood of the scenes and the creepiness of the characters.
