Safety is a top priority at JCDS. While JCDS has always met all requirements regarding the number of faculty and staff certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED usage, the school set a goal last year of greatly increasing the number of employees trained in this important area.
These first aid skills are especially important with active students on campus and allow us to immediately attend to needs as they arise.
Jennifer Highsmith, Director of Operations, is a Red Cross certified First Aid, CPR, and AED instructor. Having a trained instructor on site makes it easier to meet the varied schedules of JCDS employees and cuts down on the need to bring a trainer from outside to campus in order to maintain certifications and train new employees. JCDS has also invested professional development funds in practice manikins for CPR and AED simulators to facilitate this training.
By the end of the school year, 45 faculty and staff members will have completed this training with Ms. Highsmith. JCDS will also offer this training opportunity to Summer Camp staff again this summer.
“It is rewarding to see our professional development dollars contributing to such an important aspect of our safety and security goals, and to an opportunity that many of our faculty and staff have been seeking,“ Pat Walker, Head of School, said.
