Our World of Nations event celebrated our diversity.
Our annual World of Nations event is a wonderful celebration of the cultures that make up our JCDS community. This year, 20 countries were represented by 33 families, creating a vibrant and meaningful showcase of our school’s diversity.
The day began with our Parade of Nations, setting the tone as students proudly saw their friends and families celebrated. Throughout the event, students traveled around campus, learning about the many backgrounds of our community. World of Nations is truly a highlight of the year, bringing us together and reminding us that, no matter where we come from, we are all JCDS Sharks.
Each country was represented with a colorful tri-fold with facts and photos from the country represented. Students rotated through the display areas and were given a brief lesson from the parent volunteers. Many of our presenters provided the students with the opportunity to participate in a craft or even learn a dance!
The festivities continued into this week as the Dining Room rolled out its World of Nations menu.
The students were able to sample cuisine from Germany, Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Italy!
The popular entrées included pork schnitzel, jerked chicken quarters, pernil (a slow-cooked pork dish common in Puerto Rico), and pasta to represent Italy.
"I think the chefs at JCDS put a lot of time and work into it," said 5th-grader Benji P. as he munched his rotini spirals with marinara sauce.
But it's the delicious desserts featured this week that really had the attention of our students! The sweet treats include Black Forest gateau, banana pancakes, tiramisu, cinnamon sugar churro, and piña colada limber.
"World of Nations is truly a highlight of the year, bringing us together and reminding us that, no matter where we come from, we are all JCDS Sharks," said Kamryn St. Thomas, Associate Director of Development.
The annual World of Nations celebration highlights the cultural diversity at Jacksonville Country Day School. These differences are what make each of us unique, and uniting them around our shared goal of providing a strong education for our students is part of what makes JCDS a world-class elementary school.
