Alumni Update: Sharks Succeeding in Middle and High School

Former JCDS students are succeeding in academics, athletics, and the arts at two prestigious Jacksonville schools: the Bolles School and the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. “We are proud of the large number of our alums who are succeeding at the middle and high school levels,” Head of School Pat Walker said. “This is a testament to the strength of the foundational education they received at JCDS and also the effectiveness of our faculty.”
  • JCDS class of 2012 alums Vijay Chalamalasetty, Caitlin Collier, Frankie Collier, Paul Kuehn, and Amita Tilak, who were named AP Scholars at the Bolles School. These five students were among the 21 current seniors at Bolles who earned this honor. The AP Scholar designation is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Additionally, Amann Doolabh (’12), Arianna Khan (’12), and Jessica Pentel (’12) were named AP Scholars with Honors. AP Scholars with Honor is a title granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.  
  • Alum Brooke Zimmerman (’13), who was named to the 1st quarter President’s List at Bolles for her involvement with the Memory Project. The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that invites art students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges. Brooke painted a portrait of a Tanzanian child and sent the portrait to the child, who was overjoyed with the painting.
  • Fourteen alums who are current 7th grade students at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville (ESJ) were named to the 1st quarter Head of School’s list. The alums are Ella Bisher, Hanna Brown, Maxwell Conner, James Fouts, Olivia Hobgood, Yasmine Khatib, Emily Leeper, Huber Matos-O’Neil, Rohan Tandon, Max Tiller, Brandon Tremble, Nick Wells, and Bryce Wilson. Additionally, Nicholas Baptista, Ryan Capra, Katelynn Grebe, Baylor Maurer, Kate Oliver, Lillie Podvia, Sean Ramsey, and Mia Vanjaria made the Academic Honors list for the 1st quarter at ESJ.
  • JCDS alums and current 8th grade students Rebecca Capra, Sydney Freed, Mary Tiller, Livi Webster, and Danny Wong were also named to the Head of School’s 1st quarter list. Jacob Hauser, Jack Hooper, Brooke Johnston, JP Varella, and Nick Vermillion earned Academic Honors at ESJ for the 1st quarter.
  • In athletics department at ESJ, Alum Brooke Johnston (’16) was named the captain of the cross-country girls team at ESJ. Jared Matey (’16) was named captain of the middle school football team and also earned the Celeste Hampton Distinguished Character Award. Maxwell Conner (’17) earned his JV letter in golf. Grant McKinney earned a JV letter and coach’s award in golf. Huber Matos-O’Neil (’17) earned a varsity letter in swimming. Rohan Tandon (’17) was named MVP of the swim team and also earned a varsity letter.
  • In the performing arts, JCDS alums Mara Goldwasser ('14), Libby Kellmanson ('13), and Jessica Hogan ('13) recently performed in the Episcopal School of Jacksonville's production of The Wiz. The performances wiere held on November 2 and 3. Also, Katie Fites (’15) will be appearing in a lead role at the Bolles fall musical performance of High School Musical.
