Our summer learning program is designed to keep math skills sharp, foster a love of reading, and help prevent the “summer slide.” All students entering Pre-K4 through 5th grade took part by completing their summer learning packets.
To reward their hard work, the Summer Learning Celebration was a blast! Even our beloved mascot, Sharky, was in attendance, cheering on the kiddos!
To kick off the day, all students assembled in the Blue Circle for some congratulatory words from Head of School, Mr. Chris Johnson, and others for completing their summer studies.
The excitement continued as we learned our new "theme song" for the year, which will headline all assemblies. For 2025-2026, it is Better Together by Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson. Our adventurous dance instructors led the students and faculty through the dance steps for the song, and it was tremendous fun!
Ms. Jessica Barker sang our birthday song to celebrate all of the Sharks with August birthdays.
After the assembly, students went back to their classrooms to proceed with their lessons until their appointed party time for the Summer Learning Celebration.
Our Sharks dove into creating art and jewelry, playing lawn games, getting their faces painted, dancing, whirling hula-hoops, singing Karaoke, and swimming!
Alas, summer storm clouds rolled in during the 5th graders' party time, but our Sharks kept the fun alive with lively games in the Steitz gym, their smiles brighter than the cloudy skies!
"As always, Summer Learning Celebration was so much fun!" said Director of Education Tonya Elstein. "It's exciting to celebrate all the growth that takes place over the summer and even more inspiring to look ahead at a wonderful year of possibilities—embracing new experiences, learning new skills, and building strong relationships. That's what JCDS is all about, and when we do it together, it's always BETTER!"
