Bringing Ancient Greece to Life

by Michael Porter
5th-graders complete their Greek unit in style.
Our 5th-graders wrapped up their Ancient Greece unit in the best way possible, with Greek Day! After weeks of studying history, art, and literature, the Sharks stepped back in time and made it all come alive through friendly competition, great food, and plenty of creativity.

The morning kicked off on the field with the annual Greek Olympics. Divided into teams and dressed in authentic Greek tunics, the students dove into the action: chariot races, relay races, discus throwing, broad jumps, and a lively 40-yard dash. The field buzzed with laughter and plenty of good-natured rivalry.

A big thank-you to the PE department for putting on such spirited games!

After working up healthy appetites, everyone headed to the Dining Room for a special Greek-inspired tasting. Chef Jim and Chef Rafael teamed up to create a delicious spread featuring tender roasted lamb, a mixed olive salad, creamy feta cheese, warm pita bread, tzatziki, and hummus. The lamb earned rave reviews for its savory flavor, and the pita bread was such a great hit that many students wished for seconds!

In the afternoon, the students performed original skits based on Greek mythology. While some of the legends touched on weighty themes, the 5th-graders added just the right touch of humor, turning the stories into performances that were as fun to watch as they were educational.

It was a wonderful way to end the day and the perfect culmination of all their hard work on the Greek unit. Well done, Sharks!
