The fourth graders performed their show Rock and Roll Forever to a lively crowd of family, friends, Kindergarten buddies, and our third graders in October. This show has been in the JCDS repertoire for a few years, but Music Specialist Jessica Barker keeps it fresh.
This year, Ms. Barker changed the Beatles song to Help! from I Want to Hold Your Hand, and added a new finale that showcased instrumental skills on the Orff instruments to Joan Jett's I Love Rock and Roll. It was a fun conclusion to the show!
Rock and Roll Forever featured a spirited song-and-dance production number honoring Elvis Presley and his Blue Suede Shoes. A number of Elvis impersonators popped up on the stage.
As always, Dance Manager Hannah Tucker's choreography was first-rate and quite sophisticated for fourth graders!
The girls got to shine with their homage to Aretha Franklin as they sang Respect.
"My goal as a music teacher is to create musicians who are well-rounded. They can sing. They can play instruments. They can perform and act and be expressive," said Ms. Barker. "I want to add more opportunities like instruments and movement so students can express themselves in lots of different ways."
This production showcased the many talents and skills of our fourth graders. They have two more grade-level shows to perform before they graduate from JCDS. Sharky can't wait to see their level of expertise develop over the next couple of years.
