Homeroom Parents

Jacksonville Country Day School promotes family involvement and parental participation in all aspects of student life. Homeroom Parents have an important impact on students' educational experience by providing in-room assistance to our teachers.

Homeroom parents act as a liaison between teachers and the parents in each classroom. Responsibilities vary by teacher and grade but may include scheduling other volunteers, planning holiday functions and special events, or coordinating chaperones for field trips. Homeroom parents will request volunteers for specific activities throughout the school year so there will be many opportunities to get involved. It is the responsibility of homeroom parents to organize activities and delegate the work to those parents who have offered to help.

Homeroom assignments will be finalized after class lists have been announced in late August. Grade level homeroom parents will be contacted in early September. To be considered for a homeroom parent position, please email your request to

Classroom Volunteering for All Grades

Volunteers become involved in their child’s classroom in a variety of ways from reinforcing academic skills to special projects. Volunteers will be assigned for each classroom based on teachers' needs. All volunteers must complete a volunteer training session before being added to the classroom volunteer list. You will have the opportunity to sign up for participation with your child's teacher throughout the school year. The volunteer schedule varies by grade level and teacher.

Examples of how volunteers support the teacher include cutting and pasting for class projects, drawings, filing, making copies, putting up bulletin boards, or working at centers with students. Volunteers only help in their children’s classes on an "as needed" basis. Both teachers and homeroom parents do the scheduling of classroom volunteers.
