What Are Hanging Car Tags?
During dismissal, hanging car tags are required to be displayed from the rearview mirror. These will be available in the Main Office on Pre-conference Day. These cards enable staff to know you are authorized to pick up a child while also allowing for the efficient loading of cars that helps to reduce waiting time. Separate hanging car tags will also be assigned if your family is involved in a carpool.
What Are The Procedures for Dismissing My Child Early?
For an early dismissal, you must send an email to your child’s teacher and to the main office at firstname.lastname@example.org
before noon on the day of dismissal. When you arrive at the Main Office, your child will be called from class for early dismissal. Please allow 10 minutes for this to occur. You must have identification with you to sign your child out.
Are There Procedures for Parents and Other Visitors on Campus?
Yes, the school has developed specific procedures to ensure the safety and security of the students. They are outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook. Everyone entering the campus after 8:10 a.m. must be buzzed into the gate at blue circle. You will then need to sign in at the main office in order to obtain the appropriate name tag/badge for your time on campus. The badge must be visible at all times. Parents and visitors are never allowed to go directly to classrooms or other areas of the campus without signing in first. This includes lunch with your student. To expedite the process during conferences or when parent groups are invited to a function, we will have pre-printed badges ready for you.
What After School Activities are Available and How do I Register My Child?
JCDS offers a variety of extracurricular activities including academic extras, dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatics and cheerleading,) music lessons (piano, guitar and band instruments), art classes, and athletics (soccer, karate, basketball, flag football, volleyball, yoga, and swim are examples). In late July, an email regarding available activities including descriptions, grade eligibility, and schedules will be sent to JCDS families with detailed information on how to register. Registration takes place online prior to the start of the school year. You may also check the www.jcds.com website for listings, descriptions and associated fees of the activities offered. Please note that this will be updated prior to the start of school each year.
Extended Care: What are the Hours of Operation and How Do I Enroll My Child?
Extended care is available before and after school. Early care is from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in the lobby of the Smith Center and may only be accessed through the yellow circle. Extended care is available from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. by grade, in designated areas that will be communicated at the start of the school year. Occasional extended care is available with an email to the student’s teacher, the main office (email@example.com
) and the extended care team (firstname.lastname@example.org
). Registration for extended care will be online prior to the start of the school year where you may also find a list of fees for this service.
Parent Open House
We hold a Parent Open House immediately after school begins to familiarize parents with the school, the teachers and associate teachers, grade level programs and the school’s curriculum capsule. It is an excellent opportunity to get first hand knowledge of your child’s classroom. The daily schedule, curriculum and classroom procedures are fully explained. Open House does not include students as only parents are invited to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to ask your child’s teacher general questions and meet other parents. We strongly encourage you to attend this informative comprehensive event. Dates and times are on the school calendar, at www.jcds.com, under the myJCDS button.
