School with A Heart

The student council at Jacksonville Country Day School (JCDS) raised over $700 for charity on a recent “break the dress code” day. JCDS student council members used these funds at Target to pick out socks for patients at Wolfson Children's Hospital. They also assembled 50 "Art to Go" bags to give to Art With A Heart in Healthcare at Wolfson, which will give the bags to patients in the program.
In addition to the hand-selected socks, the brightly colored tote bags contained a sketchpad, colored pencils, oil pastels, an eraser, a duct tape pen (handmade by the student council members), and watercolors.

“The bags that we are giving the children are just amazing. I couldn't believe that we were giving that much stuff and I couldn't be happier,” 6th grade student Adaire said. "The socks and bags will really make the patients happy and they will know that people are thinking about them and hoping for them to get better.”

The student council advisors were excited to take this donation to the hospital. “Thank you for being a school that gives back. It is such a blessing to be a part of it,” 5th grade associate teacher Lindsey Dunn said about assembling the bags.

“Thank you Jacksonville Country Day School for the wonderful ‘Art to Go’ bags,” Art with a Heart in Healthcare posted to its Facebook page. “Kids helping kids.”

The JCDS student council will be donating the leftover funds from the purchase of socks and art supplies to the Ellie DIPG Research Fund in memory of Ellie Kavalieros, who was a student at the school.
