New Creative Play Items for Early Learning

“Helping children enjoy unstructured play, especially outdoors, is a passion of mine. I spent many creative hours as a kid building things, imagining, and playing with friends,” Nathan Renstrom said. “The unstructured time led me to a strong passion for mechanics and woodworking, and it's great to be able to apply these hobbies to a project at JCDS.”
Mr. Renstrom donated his skill and talents to building a plexiglass painting wall and an outside play kitchen for early learning students at our school. From the moment the items were placed on the outdoor learning scape, they were already being put to good use.

Mr. Renstrom, who is Camp and Sports Manager at JCDS, worked out the design to the specifications outlined by the early learning teachers. For example, the teachers helped Nathan determine the appropriate height to be accessible to young children.

“Being a part of the JCDS staff has afforded me many opportunities to help inspire creativity and imagination in future generations,” Mr. Renstron added.

Nathan’s dad, Rick Renstrom, also helped to build the outdoor play items. The items are in place on the school’s outdoor learning scape.  Thanks to Nathan and Rick, JCDS students will derive many hours of creative outdoor play with these two items!
