The curriculum at the 4th through 6th grade levels emphasizes higher level thinking skills integrated with the core subjects of language arts, writing, science, and mathematics. The development of team, study, and organizational skills prepare students for academic success.
Students study a wide variety of subjects including geography, Florida history, American history, global studies, and ancient civilizations. Students engage in hands-on projects and lively discussions, and are expected to present and communicate what they have learned and discovered.
JCDS is a safe place for students to find what sparks their academic interests. Students benefit from state-of-the-art science and technology labs with enthusiastic teachers in a supportive environment. Caring faculty who are aware of the social and emotional needs and learning styles of children, the students work closely to differentiate curriculum for students.
Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Students in 4th through 6th grades are issued their own personal iPads for use during the school year.
